The city would have a toll-based elevated expressway linking the IT corridors to the Bangalore International Airport if Agenda for Bangalore Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) clears a proposal.
The road would connect IT corridors on the south and the east of the city to Bangalore International Airport. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahangar Palike (BBMP) has proposed an elevated expressway on two routes; one on the Hebbal flyover-Minsk Square-Vellara Junction–Madiwala route and the other on Vellara Junction–Kodihalli–Kundalahalli route.
The government has referred the project, proposed by IDEB Projects Ltd under the Swiss Challenge system, to ABIDe. Palike chief engineer (major roads) Krishna Reddy said that once ABIDe clears the proposal, global tenders would be invited for implementing the expressway.
The Hebbal–Madiwala corridor would be 16km long. From Madiwala, the Silk Board–Electronic City elevated expressway would provide a seamless connectivity to the IT corridor on Hosur Road.
Entry ramps would be constructed at Hebbal, Baptist Hospital, Palace Grounds, Kumara Krupa Road, Planetarium, Minsk Square, Vellara Junction, Baldwin School and Madiwala. Exit ramps would be provided at Hebbal, Baptist Hospital, Cauvery Cinema, Planetarium, Minsk Square, Vellara Junction, Baldwin School, Sarjapur Road and Kundalahalli.
The Vellara-Kundalahalli route would be a 12km link to service the IT corridors on the east — ITPL and Whitefield. There would be entry ramps at Leela Palace, HAL Airport, Marathahalli and Kundalahalli while exit ramps would be provided at Leela Palace, Marathahalli and Kundalahalli.
IDEB has proposed that the rail link can be provided along with the elevated expressway without any change in the alignment. It is possible to provide both road and rail link, one above the other, if the government decides to provide both.
