Rape victim dies while 'undergoing treatment'

PANAJI: A married woman who was brutally raped by unknown people at Arambol beach on Christmas eve died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in the State government-run Goa Medical College and Hospital, police said.
    
The 44-year-old woman was found unconscious on the beach by fishermen on December 24. She was immediately shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital where she did not regainconsciousness.
    
Her husband had filed a complaint of rape with the local Pernem police station.
    
As the woman was unconscious throughout in the hospital, police were unable to get a statement from her.
    
Pernem police have rounded up a few people in connection with the offence although they are yet to arrest anyone formally.
