NEW DELHI: Having burnt its fingers in the Rajasthan assembly elections, BJP's central unit office-holders on Wednesday decided to shun favouritism while choosing candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections should be sans any favouritism and personal likes and dislikes," senior BJP leader L K Advani told party leaders at a meeting of office-holders in New Delhi.

BJP's defeat in the Rajasthan assembly elections recently was said to be due to infighting in the party and faulty distribution of party ticket.

Advani said, "In Rajasthan, Congress had not won, BJP had lost." He told the party to adopt an objective approach which was sacrificed in selection of candidates recently.

"The mine-thine approach should end and a mix and match of credibility of the candidate and winnability should be the criteria," a BJP MP, quoting Advani, told the press.

The party should give the impression that it is concerned about the welfare of the nation.

Advani also emphasised on the need for infusing new blood into the party and said no constraint on promoting those who may be young but talented over the senior leaders.

BJP also decided to give charge of winning new allies in Assam, Orissa and Maharashtra to M Vankaiah Naidu. Sushma Swaraj has been given the same task for Haryana and Punjab while Arun Jaitely will try to find new NDA allies in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The BJP central election committee will meet on January 8, 2009 to finalise seats for Lok Sabha elections. The party also formally announced the dates for the next national executive to be held in Nagpur from January 23 to 25.
