RANCHI: Jharkhand assembly speaker Alamgir Alam today said the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai was an attempt to hit the economic system of the country and hailed the gallant retaliatory action by security forces.

"Our security forces including ATS chief Hemant Karkare, NSG major Sandeep Unikrishnan and Gajendra Singh's bravery freed Mumbai from the terrorists...We condemn the grisly act of terrorism," the speaker said as the house remembered the martyrs and condoled the deaths of scores of innocent lives.

Visibly moved by human chains and tributes to the victims of terror attacks across the country, Alam said "This showed our unity and integrity."

Saluting countrymen for their show of unity, the speaker said the attacks failed to deter the people who exercised their mandate fearlessly during the (five) state assembly elections.

Showing immense respects to the martyrs and victims during the attack, chief minister Shibu Soren deplored the attack and termed it as an act of cowardice.

The house also paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Viswanath Pratap Singh who passed away on November 27.

Former minister Ajit Panja and Jharkhand movement architect N E Horo, who recently passed away, were also remembered by the legislators.
