Mills and Boon launches India hunt for romance writer

Global romance series leader Mills and Boon on Tuesday announced an exclusive short story writing contest to discover the 'world's next big romance writer' from India.

NEW DELHI: The classic story of a tall dark and handsome hero falling for the vulnerable and comely girl, that made thousands of women readers swoon may soon be
set in Agra, Mumbai or other Indian cities.

Global romance series leader Mills and Boon on Tuesday announced an exclusive short story writing contest to discover the 'world's next big romance writer' from India to join its team of over 1300 writers.
 
"We are looking for an author who can lend an Indian flavour to our stories. We have a global pool of writers from across the world in places like Cuba, Hiong Kong, London and Australia, but we have not recieved as yet an overwhelming response from India," says Andrew Go, Director - India Operations, Harlequin Mills and Boon India.
 
With the 'Passions' short story writing contest the publisher of bestselling international authors such as Debbie Macomber, Nora Roberts and Penny Jordan, Mills and Boon hopes to reach out to the rich Indian literary talent and provide them with a global platform.

The publication is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

"India is traditionally very romantic with the world's most beautiful ode to love The Taj Mahal located here. We want millions of our readers to be able to read a story set in this land of romance," said Go.
 
The winner's story will be published by Mills & Boon and its author will receive a yearlong consultation from the publisher's editorial staff as well as a free laptop computer and diamond jewellery.  The winner will be announced February 4, 2009. 

"Women across the world unite over M&B and we sell an average of 4 books every second and publish over 100 new books per month. In India we are promoting our brand with tie-ups with retail chains, bookstores and with Cafe Coffee outlets.

We have also given free books to readers of popular magazines like Cosmopolitan," Go said.

Harlequin Mills & Boon India Private Ltd. is based out of Mumbai and publishes 10 titles every month over three series-Modern, Romance and Desire.
 
Worlwide it issues titles in 29 languages and selss in 107 international markets.
