NEW DELHI: In wake of the BJP's failure to retain power in Rajasthan, the state's chief of the party, Om Mathur, has offered to step down taking moral responsibility for the poor show during the assembly polls.

Party sources said Mathur, during a meeting with BJP leader L K Advani and president Rajnath Singh on Sunday, has offered to step down taking moral responsibility.

The party's top brass has, however, decided to keep his resignation offer "on hold till further consultation".

Mathur and former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje were summoned to Delhi yesterday to "sort out their differences", sources said.

Both the saffron party leaders held separate meetings with Advani, Rajnath and in-charge of State Venkaiah Naidu.

The marathon meetings held at the Advani's official residence for more than three hours, however, remained inconclusive, the sources said.

Today's meeting was attended by the party's Rajasthan organisation Secretary Saudan Singh and former Home Minister Ghulab Chand Kataria.

According to the sources, the party leadership is attributing the loss in the state to the "mutual differences" and "lack of coordination" among the party ranks in the state.

A decision is also yet to be taken on whether Raje would take over as the Leader of Opposition or senior leader Kataria would be asked to lead the legislative party.

The party sources said that the central leadership is not in favour of making drastic changes in the organisational set-up in the run-up to all important Lok Sabha polls.

"The talks are still inconclusive, however, all leaders irrespective of their stature have been asked to be accommodative and work in coordination," a top party leader said.
