“Do you have any complaint?” That was the first thing the magistrate asked Mohammed Ajmal Mohammed Aamir Kasab, 21 — the only 26/11 terrorist captured alive  - when he was produced before the 37th Esplanade court on Friday.

Kasab was arrested by DB Marg police very early on Thursday. He was handed over to the crime branch, who produced him before the court. He has been remanded in police custody till December 11.

The terrorist was produced before magistrate NN Shrimangale a little before 5 pm on Friday. “He came dressed in a burqah. His veil was removed after he was produced before the magistrate,” said a source at the court.

“When Kasab was brought in, every court staff working that day gathered round to see him. He is short in stature. The magistrate asked him whether he had any complaint. He gestured no. It was all over in just five minutes,” added the source.

As per the procedure, laid down by the Criminal Procedure Code, it is mandatory for the magistrate to ask an accused in custody if he has any complaint. If he does complain of torture, he should be sent for medical examination.
