Twenty-one-year-old Mohammed Akmal Kasab, the lone terrorist nabbed alive, is begging to be killed. “Please kill me. I do not want to be alive”, he reportedly told his captors  — the Mumbai cops.

He is not doing this to atone for his heinous crime or out of sheer religious fervour. A lot more is at stake for him and his family back home in Faridkot, Pakistan. A senior investigating official told DNA that Kasab’s bosses in the Lashkar-e-Tayiba had promised to pay a sum of Pakistani Rs1.5 lakh (equivalent to Indian Rs96,000) to his family if he died.

The official said that the senior members were promised Pakistani Rs2 lakh. Sources claimed that also brainwashed that he would get a place in jannat (heaven) if he died for jihad.

However, Kasab is now worried that his masters won’t pay his poor family and is also concerned about their welfare.“Please kill me. I have nothing to live for. I could not go to jannat and my family will not get the cash,” he kept repeating to the police.
