NASHIK: Medical Council of India (MCI) has recognised 17 medical colleges with post-graduate degrees and diplomas, with retrospection, bringing respite to a large number of medical students, parents and doctors who have passed out of these institutions.

Along with 17 colleges, four undergraduate colleges have also been recognised. These include MGM at Navi Mumbai, GMC at Latur and Miraj, and NDMVPS Medical College at Nashik. PDMMC, Amravati is the only college from the list that has not been approved for reasons of shortage of teaching staff of up to 15% and shortage of residents of up to 10%.

“We have tried to simplify procedures and have taken efforts to see that colleges comply with required criteria to be recognised. I have done my duty in a hope that now the immense shortage of teaching staff will be filled up,” said Dr Vasant Pawar, member, MCI, representative, Maharashtra Medical Graduates’ Constituency and MLC.
