BANGALORE: Ravi (26), a journalist, has been arrested on charges of making a threatening call to an MLA Vishwanath on Sunday night.

The accused called the MLA at 3:30 pm on Sunday identifying himself as a naxalite, Dharmaraj, from Andhra Pradesh, and demanded Rs75 lakh. He called the MLA four more times.

Initially, Vishwanath refused to succumb to the demands. Ravi then threatened to shoot him he doesn't meet his demand.

Vishwanath then filed a complaint at Yelahenka New Town police station. He also provided the mobile number from which the call came.

During their investigations, the police found that the accused had changed the SIM card twice. One of the SIMs was in the name of landlord of the house in which Ravi was staying.

After interrogating Ravi, the police found that he was not a naxalite but a blackmailer involved in several such cases.
