Peerbhoy, who allegedly sent terror emails, has moved an application before MCOCA judge
MUMBAI: Mansoor Peerbhoy, who allegedly wrote the emails sent before the serial terror blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad a couple of months ago, has expressed his willingness to turn approver.
Peerbhoy, 31, submitted a handwritten application on Tuesday before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) judge, RG Awachat, which was soon declared ‘confidential’ by the court, sources connected to the case said. The judge only asked, “Are you sure about the desire you have expressed [in the
application]?” Peerbhoy replied in the affirmative.
A computer engineer with Yahoo!, Peerbhoy was allegedly one of the key members of terror group Indian Mujahideen (IM)’s media cell. According to the Mumbai crime branch, Peerbhoy was responsible for sending threatening emails prior to the Ahmedabad serial blasts on July 26 and and the Delhi blasts on September 13 through wireless Internet connections in Navi Mumbai and Matunga.
He is currently in the crime branch’s custody and will be produced before the MCOCA court on November 4.
There was no official confirmation that Peerbhoy wanted to turn approver. “I can only tell you that an application has been filed by Peerbhoy and we will file a reply on the next court date,” said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police.
Some police sources feared “leak” of this confidential application could hamper the prosecution case.
Peerbhoy did not consult his lawyer, Subhash Kanse, and, instead, filed a handwritten application. “I have not spoken to Peerbhoy since his arrest. I have not even read the contents of the application,” said Kanse.
