The Mumbai University on Wednesday said the results of various exams were getting delayed due to unavailability of teachers or teachers not reporting for the central assessment programme (evaluation of papers). As per the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994, results need to be published within 30-45 days from the concluding date of examination.

Figures given by the university reveal that in the first half of the 2008 examinations, while around 151 results were declared in 45 days, results of around 199 exams were delayed and went beyond the stipulated period of 45 days.

University pro vice-chancellor AD Sawant said barring some major programmes, which have many students, this figure of 199 includes subjects where the student strength is comparatively lower.

Sub-centres: During Wednesday’s senate meeting, members highlighted the issue of urban-rural disparity, lack of access to higher education in remote areas and stressed the need to set up sub-centres in tribal areas. At present, there is a sub-centre in Ratnagiri. It had earlier announced setting up sub-centres in Thane and Kalyan-Dombivili.
