NEW DELHI: With large number of curious onlookers gathering near the international airport here to have a glimpse of aircraft, Delhi Police has prohibited assembling of people or parking of vehicles at a 500-metre stretch on National Highway 8, fearing security risk.

The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H G S Dhaliwal on Monday, comes in the wake of reports that large number of people gather near the landing and take off area of the airport which may cause security risk for the aircraft.

"With people assembling near the airport to have a glance of the aircraft, there are possibilities of miscreants mingling up with general public in order to attack the landing aircraft which is at a closer range," a senior police officer said.

The order says gathering of people and vendors or parking of vehicles are prohibited at a stretch of 250 metres back and forth on both sides of the NH-8 near the airport.

However, the official said, the order shall not apply to religious rallies and processions which have the requisite permission of the police.

"Religious rallies and processions can be held with the prior permission in writing of the DCP (South)," the official
added.
