KARACHI: Newly-appointed Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ejaz Butt on Friday appointed former Test pacer Saleem Jaffer as the new Chairman of selectors.

Former test batsmen, Shoaib Mohammad and Ejaz Ahmed, who played during Imran Khan and Javed Miandad's era, will be the new members of the committee.

The PCB also nominated Yawar Saeed as the new manager of the Pakistan team, following the sudden resignation of Talat Ali while Sultan Rana will accompany the national team as manager to Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament.

The Board's senior official, Saleem Altaf said that Jaffer will head the new selection committee which has been named for an interim period.

"Shafqat Rana who was a member of the selection committee resigned on Friday so we had to announce a new set of selectors for an interim period," Altaf said.

"They will select the teams for the Hong Kong sixes and the three one-day internationals against the West Indies in Abu Dhabi next month," he said.

The resignations of Talat and Shafqat came amidst growing rumours that Ejaz Butt had started asking sitting officials for their resignations as he wanted to bring in his own management team.

Sources say, infact, it was the VIP treatment accorded to former Chairman Nasim Ashraf who visited Toronto for the Twenty20 tournament from New York has led to Talat's resignation as manager although he still had nine months left in his contract with the Board.

"The new Chairman was not pleased to learn that Talat had allowed Ashraf to visit the Pakistan dressing room and mingle with the players in Toronto. As he feels Ashraf had no business being in the dressing room," one source said.

"Talat basically was conveyed to send in his resignation," he added.

Asked about the rumours of chief operating officer, Shafqat Naghmi also resigning, Altaf said he was carrying on his work.

"The new Chairman is assessing the job responsibilities and performances of all employees including Naghmi and will make a decision soon on who will continue or has to go," he added.
