Raids to flush out duplicate health drinks, chocolates

COIMBATORE: Health officials on Thursday carried out raids in various shops and medical shops in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts to flush out spurious health drinks and chocolates, particularly being used by children.
   
Based on instructions from Chennai, Corporation health department officials here formed four teams and raided shops coming under four zones.
   
According to official sources, there were complaints that spurious and duplicate chocolates and health drinks, particularly imported ones, are being sold under the label of leading brands and the raids were conducted to flush out such drinks and eatables.
   
However, the details of the raids were not known.
   
Meanwhile, officials in Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district have seized a few duplicate health drinks being sold under the labels of major companies, during the raids, sources said. Protesting against the raids,about 250 medical shops, including those in Hospitals,  in the district, downed their shutters from afternoon.
