AURANGABAD: A confirmed case of a boy suffering from polio has been reported by the Maharashtra State Health Services.
    
"A five-year-old boy from Vetalwadi village of Soyegaon tehsil is suffering from polio of P3 type," Dr D S Dakhure, Additional Director, Health Services, Family Welfare, Pune said.
     
The boy, identified as Arbaz Pathan stays in Vetalwadi, four kilometers from Soyegaon tehsil.

It is also learnt that the boy was administered polio drops more than five times till now in the Jarandi Primary Health Centre.
    
Dr Dakhure said the report from Enterovirus Research Centre, a WHO referral centre for South-East Asia, located in Haffkine Institute premises rpt located in Haffkine Institute premises, Mumbai, where the stool sample of Arbaz was sent, confirmed that he was suffering from polio.
    
Medical Officer of Soyegaon tehsil Dr N G Khadke said the boy was having problem in his right leg while walking. It eventually stopped functioning completely.
    
This is third such case reported from Maharashtra this year. The first case was detected in Mumbai in February while the second was came to fore in April in Thane district.
