NEW DELHI: In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP MP Khiren Rijiju on Wednesday said the ethnic clashes in Assam are "threatening the existence" of indigenous societies in the state.

"Sir, your Home Constituency of Assam is burning... The ongoing ethnic clash in the state, is becoming very serious and threatening the very existence of indigenous societies of Assam," Rijiju said.

"It is time to play the national integrity card not the political card. Indigenous people are becoming refugees, land owners are becoming landless. Local people can not travel around freely in their own homeland," Rijiju said in his letter to Singh, who represents Assam in the Upper House.

The MP from Arunachal Pradesh also alleged the Congress of "supporting" illegal Bangladeshi migration for the sake of enjoying power.

"I had great hope in you (Manmohan Singh) as you are considered to be apolitical person and an honest man, who will think only for greater interest of the nation and not pursue the Congress agenda," Rijiju added.

"Sir, time is running fast. We have lost the battle. But let us not loose the war. Listen to the voice of the indigenous people of Assam. If you do not listen to their voice today, you will never get to listen to them tomorrow," he said.
