Abu Salem sends lady love Monica Bedi mushy legal notice

MUMBAI: Deeply anguished by starlet Monica Bedi’s statements to the media, denying marriage to him, jailed gangster Abu Salem on Tuesday served a legal notice on her.

Salem, who served the notice through his lawyer Raja Thakur, claims he and Monica were married in a Los Angeles mosque in November 2000. In several interviews to the press after her eviction from the reality show Bigg Boss, Monica has said she had known Salem for many years but never actually married him.

The legal notice which reads more like a heart-wrenching love letter states he shall, “though heart-broken, soulfully pronounce talaq” if she communicates this desire in writing.

“If you have no such desire [for a divorce] and you still love my client [Salem], then please clarify to the press and the electronic media your marital status so that all the controversy is put to rest and my client can concentrate on his defence in the ongoing trial,” states the notice.

Salem said his anguish had been “multiplied manifold” since he was unable to communicate with Monica due to his own incarceration. Salem has been lodged at Arthur Road jail ever since his deportation from Portugal in November 2005.

“Unable to comprehend or fathom” Monica’s reasons for denying their marriage, Salem claimed he had always “actively encouraged and supported” her acting career.

If their marriage was “causing obstruction, hardship or obstacle” in her acting ambitions, Salem said he was “ready to move out of” her life and divorce her so that she was “free, happy and at liberty to settle in life again.”

Salem said he found “peace, solace and comfort” in reading Monica’s letters and cards sent to him on marriage anniversaries “in the loneliness of the prison.”

Getting mushier, the notice states his love for Bedi “shall never diminish or fade away even if she desired to split up or severe their marital ties.”

Salem, who hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, is charged with ferrying arms and ammunition to Mumbai before the 1993 serial blasts.
