Toll in September 27 terror strike in Capital rises to three as MBA student’s eight-day battle  for life ends

NEW DELHI: Ishtiaq Ansari, who was grievously injured in the Mehrauli blast, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday after battling for life for the past eight days, bringing to three the number of those killed in the September 27 explosion in the Capital.

“Ishtiaq was on life-support since the day he was admitted in the hospital,” said MC Mishra, director, AIIMS Trauma Centre. Apart from Ansari (24), the other two who died in the explosion were Santosh (9) and Dipu (23).

Ansari was a first-year MBA student of Integrated Management college (IMC) in Saket and was admitted with serious injuries of the brain and the abdomen.

“When he was brought to the trauma centre he was almost dead. We had to work very hard to resuscitate him. We operated upon him immediately. His kidney was in a compromised state and his brain was severely damaged. If he survived this long, it was all due to the better nutritional condition before he got injured in the blast,” said Mishra.

Ansari along with his friends Shyam Bahadur (25) and Satyajeet Chaudhari (24) was crossing the flower market in Mehrauli when the bomb went off.

Of the three students, Ansari sustained serious head injuries while his other two friends received injuries in the leg.

The three business school students had gone to the Mehrauli flower market on Saturday afternoon for some last minute Eid shopping.
