Four sentenced to death in murder case

A fast track court here has awarded death sentence to four persons and life imprisonment to 11 others in the murder of a Dalit committed about 15 years ago.

BARABANKI: A fast track court here has awarded death sentence to four persons and life imprisonment to 11 others in the murder of a Dalit committed about 15 years ago.
       
Additional district and sessions judge (fast track court) Anup Kumar Goyal on Monday pronounced the verdict in the murder of Chedu, who was killed on June 22, 1993, by fifteen people following rivalry over eve teasing in Maugarepur village.
       
According to prosecution, Chedu was beheaded after he assaulted son of his master Sagar for harassing his daughter.
       
Chedu, who initially had fled the village after Sagar's son succumbed to injuries, returned later only to be brutally killed by a group of fifteen people.
       
His dismembered body was also set ablaze by the accused in a field, prosecution said.
       
An FIR was later filed by elder brother of Chedu.
       
Those awarded capital punishment are Sagar, Nanku, Harinath and Ashok, while 11 others have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
