NEW DELHI: Faith leaders of Hindu, Islam, Jain, Buddhist, Bahais, Sikhs and Jews on Saturday condemned the ongoing violence against the Christian community allegedly by right wing organisations such as the Bajrang Dal and the VHP and demanded stringent action by the Centre against the culprits.

Swami Agnivesh, president of World Council of Arya Samaj, said such acts had sullied the image of “Jai Bajrang”. Agnivesh, alleged the violence was the result of a “deep-rooted political conspiracy” by the BJP and its affiliates. He said a “Godhra type” mayhem is being created.

Agnivesh said that even before the real culprits behind the killing of VHP leader Lakshmananda Saraswati was ascertained attack on the Christian community was started. “It is not the VHP or Bajrang Dal but the BJP, who is the real beneficiary of this situation. I hold them responsible.” “LK Advani , too, is quiet, he did not utter a word against the attack on Christians.”

“Those who killed Lakshamanand are criminals, likewise those who attacked Christians too are criminals,” said the Arya Samaj leader. “The attack is not against a community but humanity,” Agnivesh said adding the BJP’s politics will only help terrorists divide India.

Muni Lokprakash Lokesh, director, Rashtreeya Ekta Samiti, also deplored the attack and slammed, the Centre and state governments for not doing enough. Others who joined the condemnation are: Maulana Umair Ilyasi, secretary general, All India Association of Imams of Mosques, Swami Shantatmananda, director Rama Krishna Ashram among others.
