Injured cop stable; another undergoes surgery

Forty-year-old Balwant, one of the two officers of the special cell involved in the encounter with the militants in Jamia Nagar on Friday, is now recuperating from bullet injuries.

NEW DELHI: Forty-year-old Balwant, one of the two officers of the special cell involved in the encounter with the militants in Jamia Nagar on Friday, is now recuperating from bullet injuries at the AIIMS' Trauma Centre.
     
Mohan Chand Sharma, another officer of the special cell, who also received bullet injuries in the abdomen during the encounter and is undergoing surgery at the Holy Family Hospital at Okhla road.
     
"The condition of Balwant, is stable. He has a gun shot injury in the right arm. We are going to operate on him soon," Sushma Sagar, assistant professor, surgery, AIIMS Trauma Centre, said.
     
"We have also got to see if the gun shot has fractured any of his bone and torn muscles and and nerves," she added.     

Sagar also confirmed that two persons were brought dead along with the police official.
    
Police said two militants and two officers of their special cell were injured in the encounter.
