KOLKATA: An unidentified body of a man was found under mysterious circumstances in a car here Thursday evening, the police said.

The body was found in the Manicktolla area under the jurisdiction of Burtolla police station in north Kolkata.

"An unidentified body of a middle-aged man was found inside a Tata Indica car Thursday evening. There are no marks of external injury apart from faint blood stains on his nose and mouth. It is neither clear if he was murdered or died of heart attack, nor the fact how he managed to slip into the car that belongs to somebody else," city deputy commissioner (headquarters) Vineet K. Goyal said.

However, Goyal refused to disclose the name of the car-owner for the sake of investigation.

"Police has called the owner for investigation at Burtolla police station," he said.

According to police sources, the silver-coloured car was parked on the Manicktolla main road since Thursday dawn. Locals called the police in the afternoon after getting a glimpse of a man behind the black window panes of the car.

"Police reached in the evening and broke the window of the car. They found the body on the seat adjacent to the driver's. A note has been recovered from his shirt pocket with name and contact number of someone called Soumita," sources said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
