LUCKNOW: Additional forces have been deployed in Uttar Pradesh's Mau-Aima town to net suspects linked to the bombings in Delhi, a source said on Thursday, but some officers denied this was so.

Sources in the police force said they had been told by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) that the town, on Allahabad's outskirts, was becoming a haven for criminals.

It is believed that some persons connected with the Delhi serial blasts of Sep 13 that killed 24 people were hiding there, the sources said.

But the police maintained that the security in the town, with a population of 50,000, was in view of the holy month of Ramadan.

Senior Superintendent of Police of Allahabad Lalji Shukla added that paramilitary forces had conducted a flag march in the town and that senior police officials were camping there.

He said the forces had been deployed as a precaution.

"The month of Ramadan is going to end soon. This being a sensitive place, anti-social elements may try to disrupt communal harmony and peace."

Most people in Mau-Aima eke out a living as handloom weavers and manufacturers of firecrackers.

"This is also a reason that substantiates the claims of the IB as all kind of bomb-making raw material is easily available here," one official said.

On Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (Trans Ganga) V.K. Mishra and senior administrative officials held a meeting with the residents of the town.

"We called senior and responsible citizens of all the communities and urged them to remain patient and bear with us," Mishra said.

Serial blasts in the Indian capital on Saturday killed 24 people and injured over 100.
