MNC is readying a pool of employable workforce

BANGALORE: If you thought that IT skills from low cost centres like China and Philippines were posing serious threat to Indian IT talent, you can rest easy.

Global technology major Accenture is still banking on Indian talent for not just its Indian operations but also for its centres abroad.

Pankaj Vaish, managing director — delivery centre network for BPO, Accenture, said as the technology multinational expands its headcount in India, it is exporting more and more talent out of the country to its global delivery centres around the world.

And these exports are not about numbers, it is about enhancing the quality of work done at other global centres.

“We export talent out of India because they bring value with new ideas and innovations,” said Vaish.

Earlier this week, the global consulting and technology behemoth had announced that it would be adding another 13,000 people to take its headcount in India to take it 50,000 people in the next five years.

At present, Accenture’s Indian operation employs 37,000 people while it’s global headcount is 180,000 people.

“Our Indian headcount is half of Accenture’s global delivery centres’ headcount around the world,” Vaish said.

Accenture currently has a network of 50 global delivery centres. Of these, 13 are based in India. Recognising the potential of India as a reserve for IT talent, the MNC is now working towards building a pool of employable workforce.

For this, it is tying up Indira Gandhi National Open University to develop a diploma programme, which is tailored to produce students exclusively for the BPO industry.
The course will be launched by January-February next year and, will initially provide training in three industry skills.
