PUNE: A 25-year-old IT engineer jumped to death from the seventh floor of his office, leaving a suicide note that spoke of his depression due to mounting work expectations, police said on Friday.
       
Sandeep Shelke, an M Tech from IIT Mumbai and a "team leader" working with Persistant Systems took the extreme step last night, they said.
       
The suicide note recovered by police said, "I am unable to do my work well and very depressed because of it.I tried to my best to meet work expectations but still was not able to do it.
       
"I feel sorry for my loved ones but it is just unavoidable now. Nobody other than me is responsible for what I had done."
       
Sandeep, who worked with the company as programme developer for the past three years had returned from Hinjewadi IT Park to his office in the city on the fateful night, send an SMS to his younger brother Yuvraj saying that he was driven to take extreme step due to work pressure and nobody should be held responsible for his death.
       
After sending the SMS, Sandeep went to the terrace of the building and flung himself down the seventh floor, police said.
       
His death has rudely shaken the professionls in this IT hub, bringing to fore the flip side of bright careers in the booming industry.

Company sources described Sandeep as an "efficient, sincere and promising professional", who was highly regarded for his work commitments.
       
"The incident was a complete shocker," an official said. Another company official who deeply regretted the incident said Sandeep was "their star performer".
       
The incident came as a poignant reminder of striking the much needed "work-life balance", IT circles reacted.
       
Meanwhile, on "Orkut", friends fondly remembered Sandeep who had introduced himself on the net profile as "a man of few words".
