CHANDIGARH: The cremation of singing sensation Ishmeet Singh, who died in the Maldives on Tuesday, will be held tomorrow in his native town Ludhiana.
    
The body of 19-year-old singer is expected to reach New Delhi later tonight, official sources said here today.
    
Ishmeet, the winner of the reality show 'Voice of India 2007', had gone to the Maldives for a stage show. He drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel yesterday. He was supposed to perform on July 31.
    
Condoling the death of the talented singer, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said, "He had earned name and fame at a young age and was bound to progress further, but a young life has been cut short."
    
Speaking at a press conference here, Badal said that the state government would make the arrangements to bring Ishmeet's body to his native place.
    
I talked to Ishmeet's father Gurprinder Singh Sodhi in Ludhiana this morning and told him that the state would arrange to bring the body, Badal said.
    
A pall of gloom descended at the residence of Ishmeet in Ludhiana last night immediately after reports poured in that the young singer died after drowning in a swimming pool at a hotel in the Maldives.
    
Being the only son in his family, Ishmeet's mother Amritpal Kaur was in a state of shock as soon as she came to know about the sad demise of the singer who was pursuing his B.Com second year from MNC College in Mumbai.
    
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal along with local MP Sharnjit Singh Dhillon visited the family of 'Star Voice of India 2007 winner', Ishmeet Singh, in the Shastri Nagar locality in Ludhiana.
    
"Ishmeet was a great budding singer. He had made Punjabis proud," Sukhbir said.
    
Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh has also condoled the tragic death of the promising singer.
    
In a statement issued from Dubai, Capt Amarinder said, it was too tragic to learn that the promising singer's life had been cut short in such a tragic way.
    
He said that he was not just the pride of Punjab, but of the whole country.
    
Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, President Punjab Pradesh Congress, has also expressed heartfelt grief and sympathy on the untimely death of tomorrow's star Ishmeet Singh.
