Nearly 10 days after Meghna Subedar’s decomposed body was found on Condolim beach in Goa, the police have reached the conclusion that there is “nothing sinister” in the death of the Bangalore-based software engineer. Both Goa police and Mumbai railway police feel that Meghna’s death is a“plain and simple case of suicide.”

Police officials opined that the techie’s depressed state could have led her to take such a drastic step. “During questioning, Meghna’s friend said that she was an introvert and spoke to few people. Also, she used to say that there was no point in living and that she was all alone. She was also dissatisfied with her job,” said Shashan Shinde, PSI railways, CST, Mumbai.

However, what has the police intrigued is the fact that Meghna didn’t share a good rapport with her family. Shinde said, “She wasn’t in good terms with her parents and wouldn’t visit them for long durations.”

Police officials also said that Dr Mohan Subedar, Meghna’s father, and his family didn’t cooperate during the investigation. “They didn’t tell us that she was divorced. Also, the post mortem report showed that Meghna was suffering from a gynaecological problem due to which she couldn’t have children. He mother knew about the problem but didn’t tell us,” said Shinde

“Strangely, when he came to the city to help with the investigation, he went shopping to Inorbit Mall, Malad, with his other daughter Nandita,” added another official.

Not completely ruling out other causes including rape or murder, Shinde, however, said that it was possible that Meghna’s clothes disintegrated since her body was in the water for a long time.

Police also said that Meghna was upset after she divorced her husband Anirudh Parulekar in 2004. However, her sister Nandita said that Parulekar had tried to get in touch with his ex-wife through a social networking site, and was concerned when she didn’t respond.

“A team has been deployed to Nagpur to interrogate him,” said Shinde.
