The Goa police have registered a murder case against an unknown person, in the sensational case wherein a 28-year old woman software engineer in Bangalore, who went missing from Mumbai on April 10, was found in a nude and decomposed state at Candolim beach in Goa two days ago.
“We will try and get details of what exactly took place from the time the victim left from Bangalore. She started her journey from there and had boarded a flight to Mumbai on April 10, a few days later she had left for Goa from Mumbai. Our teams have been despatched to Banglore and Mumbai to obtain minute details of her movements at both the places,” police inspector Tushar Vernekar, of Calangute police station, told DNA. He said the cops are yet to establish where Meghna was staying in Goa and with whom she was in contact with. The Calangute police on Friday received a preliminary post-mortem report which does not specify the cause of death. “Meghna's viscera will be sent to the Hyderabad Forensic Sciences Laboratory for further examination,” said Vernekar.
“Though victim's father do not suspect anyone, based on his complaint, we have registered a murder case,” he said. Her father Dr. Mohan Subedar, identified the body.
Meanwhile, ATS has learnt that someone was using Meghna's cellphone. Tracking it, they reached Gani Mehboob, 22, a mason from Panaji. They interrogated him, only to find that phone had been changing hands ever since it had been found by a nine-year-old boy on Calangute beach some time in May.
