Founder member of the Naxalite movement Kanu Sanyal has sufferred a cerebral attack and is critically ill, a doctor attending on him said on Saturday.

SILIGURI (WB): Founder member of the Naxalite movement Kanu Sanyal has sufferred a cerebral attack and is critically ill, a doctor attending on him said on Saturday.

"Sanyal has suffered paralysis on his right side and his speech is impaired. He is not out of danger after he was admitted on Friday though he is better on Saturday," Superintendent of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Dr S Ghose Roy said.

The 76-year-old general secretary of the original CPI(ML), who had given a call for social change through armed struggle about 40 years ago at Naxalbari, fell ill at his sister's house at Birpara in Jalpaiguri district last evening.

A medical board formed for his treatment was monitoring the condition of Sanyal who had announced the formation of the CPI(ML) on April 27, Lenin's birthday, in 1969 in Kolkata.

A team of CPI(ML) workers are camping at NBMCH.

West Bengal Minister for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Asok Bhattacharya has inquired about his treatment, CPI(M) sources said.
