Tomato prices of major quality climbed upto Rs 40 each per box of 25 kg in the whoesale vegetable market here as dealers indulged in increasing their stocks to meet heavy demand.
NEW DELHI: Tomato and onion prices rose in the national capital on Thursday on increased buying by stockists and retailers amid reduced supply from producing regions of Rajasthan, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Tomato prices of major quality climbed upto Rs 40 each per box of 25 kg in the whoesale vegetable market here as dealers indulged in increasing their stocks to meet heavy demand.
Ladwa (Haryana) quality rose by Rs 20 to Rs 50-110 and Solan (Shimla) quality gained Rs 40 at Rs 150-250 per case of 25 kg respectively as fresh arrivals of nearly 70 lorries failed to meet the market demand, said a wholesale tomato trader Rajinder Kumar of Karnal Vegetables.
Onion price traded higher by Rs 30 at Rs 120-280 per 40 kg bag as arrivals of total 80 trucks were below the market expectations and to meet demand from retailers, dealers said.
Onion Rajasthan quoted in the range of Rs 120-180 from the Rs 110-160 per 40 kg bag on Wednesday. The supply of 60 trucks were picked by traders in early trade.
Supply of 20 trucks of onion from Nasik (Maharashtra) were sold in the range of Rs 230-280 per 40 kg and failed to meet the demand of traders coming to market at midsession.
However, patato traded at last levels on adequate stocks position amid restricted buying activities, said a leading potato dealer Sagir Ahmad.
The market witnessed fresh arrivals of 103 trucks while the market already holding stocks of 90 lorries in stores.
Patato Agra quality was unchanged at Rs 340-380, Simla at Rs 750-800 and Haldwani at Rs 700-750 per 80 kg respectively.
Agra potato and Simala low-quality were unchanged at Rs 280-320 and Rs 300-350 per 80 kg bag respectively.
