That’s how Vidya Balan reacts to incessant digs at her dress sense in a candid chat with Chhaya Toshniwal

Against the backdrop of a colourful Bharatnatyam dancer’s face, Vidya Balan was shooting for the foot-tapping song If you wanna dance for Aziz Mirza’s Kismet Konnection.

While she kept giving innumerable retakes, the buzz was that choreographer Ahmed Khan had suggested an impromptu change in the steps! In this romantic comedy, for a change, Vidya will be seen in hip ensembles grooving to western steps. She says, “I’m enjoying these steps because they are different. I trust Ahmed implicitly. I’m sure, the change is for the good.”

Elaborating on her role Vidya says, “It’s a love story. I play a girl who is working in Toronto. She is like the girl-next-door but very opinionated.” Incidentally, Kismet Konnection has also been in the news for the alleged real-life romance between the reel couple Shahid Kapur and Vidya.

The actor clarifies, “These rumours emerged when we started shooting together. I am not dating Shahid. He’s a co-star with whom I get along wonderfully.” When asked if she was upset about Shahid allegedly double-dating her and Sania Mirza she says, “Only if I was dating Shahid, I would have been upset with these rumours.”

Off and on Vidya has been criticised for her ‘bad wardrobe’. Has it made her more particular now? Vidya justifies, “After all, it’s just a piece of cloth. Clothes are mere tools to enhance my character. Earlier, I used to get upset and angry when I read about it everywhere. But now I don’t pay heed. Too much has been said about my dressing sense. I can’t help but feel amused. It’s just like a bad hair day.”

And how much does Vidya (lovingly called Vidyu by Ahmed) believe in kismet? “I believe everybody will get whatever is there in his or her kismat,” she says  philosophically.

In an anorexia-driven industry, Vidya has been panned for her ‘few extra kilos’. What’s her take? “I’m comfortable with the way I am. If I have to reduce for a role, I work on it. Otherwise I don’t bother,” she says.

Now that the monsoon is here, what are the fun things she indulges in? “I love going on bike rides with my cousins and friends,” says Vidya her voice betraying her excitement.
