Mother, son die of electrocution in Orissa

A man and his elderly mother died of electrocution when they touched an iron rod on the terrace which came in contact with a high-voltage electric wire after thundershower, police said.

CUTTACK (Orissa): A man and his elderly mother died of electrocution when they touched an iron rod on the terrace which came in contact with a high-voltage electric wire after thundershower at Hindolkothi in Orissa's Cuttack district, police said on Saturday.
    
The police said 35-year-old Mayadhar Sasmal and his 65-year-old mother Lata Sasmal died on the spot when they touched the iron rod used to dry clothes.
    
According to policemen, the live electric wire passing above the house dropped low and came in touch with the iron rod.
    
Mayadhar, a local milk trader first got electrocuted when he went to put wet clothes on the rod after taking morning bath.
    
Hearing shouts for help, his mother rushed to the terrace and also got electrocuted as she tried to pull him from the iron rod, police said.
