NEW DELHI: For anyone still not convinced of shoddy investigation in the Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj twin murder case,  the Noida police finally admitted in court on Friday that they were yet to find any concrete evidence against Dr Rajesh Talwar.

After a series of flip-flops and unsubstantiated claims, the police had arrested Dr Talwar on May 23 for allegedly murdering his teenaged daughter and domestic help.

On Friday, the police claimed in the court that Dr Talwar was “just killing their time” by not cooperating and didn’t seek his further custody. The court then remanded Dr Talwar to judicial custody till June 2.

The police also moved an application seeking to conduct narco-analysis and brain-mapping on him to “unravel” the killings.

The police have facing flak for poor handling of the twin murder and for especially “maligning” Aarushi’s character without solid evidence.

Inspector General of Police (Meerut range) Gurdarshan Singh had claimed that the victims had come to know about the “illicit affair” between Dr Talwar and his colleague and that on the night of the crime the accused saw Aarushi and Hemraj in an
“objectionable but not compromising position”.

The police didn’t get anything right in the case from day one. After the discovery of Aarushi’s body, the police team didn’t bother to search the premises of the Talwar residence. The body of Hemraj was found on the terrace of the same house the following day and it was established that the body had been lying there for nearly 24 hours.

Next were the unsubstantiated theories put forth by Singh to justify Dr Talwar’s arrest. The police then claimed that Dr Talwar had not made a confession but did a U-turn in court claiming that the arrest was based on the dentist’s confession. To their embarrassment, Dr Talwar claimed in an open court that he had made no such confession.

And if that wasn’t atrocious enough, on Thursday the police leaked a year-old e-mail sent by Aarushi to Dr Rajesh and misinterpreted its contents by putting it out of context.

The police presented before the Noida court transcripts of the e-mail and claimed that its contents “proved” that Aarushi had done “something” to which her father objected and therefore concluded, “The father and daughter didn’t share a healthy relationship.”

A part of the e-mail said, “yeah I guess wt u ment ws perfectly true bt u noe I just wanted to try it out… I wnt do it again.”

While the sentence clearly portrays a daughter who was sorry for upsetting her parents, the police twisted the last bit of the sentence, which read, “i wnt (won’t) do it again” to “I want to do it again.”
