Mahesh Bhatt’s forthcoming venture, based on the real life murder of Neeraj Grover (creative head of a TV production house) allegedly by actress Maria Monica Susaira and her naval officer boyfriend Jerome Mathew, will have a sinister drug angle to it.

Sources close to Bhatt’s team reveal that Mahesh Bhatt got to know from the police that Neeraj might have introduced the actress to drugs. The source also adds that the film will subsequently explore the drug angle. However, the filmmakers will base their story totally on the police findings due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Shagufta Rafique, the scriptwriter of this yet untitled film confirmed the story saying, “Yes we got to know from Rakesh Maria (Mumbai’s joint commissioner of police, crime) about the drug angle. Jerome in his statement had said that Neeraj often made Maria take drugs and was trying to get her addicted, which he disapproved of. This was what made him angry with Neeraj.”

She adds, “Jerome also said that Maria was losing her mind due to drugs and he wanted to protect her from Neeraj who had promised her a better life and career, something he was unable to fulfil. The film will explore all the angles of this crime of passion. But we can’t base every detail on their lives. That would be taking the story too far I guess.”

According to our sources, the film will have a balanced viewpoint and stay away from showing anyone in a negative light. Shagufta confirms this too. “We are here to make a film and not point fingers at anyone,” she said. “We have previously made films on crimes of passion. So, we won’t repeat what people have already seen. We will make this film highlighting how circumstances force people to commit certain things that changes their lives forever.”

Neeraj, creative head of Synergy Adlabs, was allegedly killed by Maria and her boyfriend Lt M L Jerome Mathew. After killing him, his body was allegedly chopped into 300 pieces by them.
