NOIDA: The father of murdered teenaged girl Arushi, dentist Rajesh Talwar, was on Friday believed to have been arrested in connection with the twin murder in which their domestic help was also killed.

There were different versions on the arrests with one saying both the parents were arrested but there was no official statement from the police.

Sources said while Talwar has been arrested, his wife Nupur and another doctor acquaintance of Rajesh have been detained for questioning.

Right from noon, there had been speculation about some arrests after the parents were picked up by the police in the morning and taken to an undisclosed destination.

A police team had gone to Hardwar on Thursday night, where the Talwars had gone on May 17 to immerse Arushi's ashes, to possibly look for the weapon used in the killings.

The arrests come a day after Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) A Satish Ganesh said there was a strong possibility of "honour killing", a covert hint that the killing could have been by the girl's relatives.

He had also said that the intention of the killer was to kill only one person and the other was the victim of circumstances. The nature of injury suffered by the two victims was similar.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh ADGP Brij Lal said the murders could have been done either by a "doctor or a butcher" because of the precise nature of the injury caused by the slitting of the throat that claimed their lives.

Noida Police has been under attack for bungling in the case when it did not spot the body of domestic help Hemraj on the terrace of the house, even one whole day after the 14-year-old Arushi's body was found on last Friday morning.

Singh said Arushi had objected to her father's extra- marital affairs and was angry about it. She had discussed the issue with Hemraj. In the process, the two victims had also shared a close relationship.

On the night hours before the murder, Singh said, Talwar had returned from his clinic and had found the two in an "objectionable" condition but not in a compromising position.

Hemraj had also discussed with his friends the doctor's alleged illicit relationship, which Talwar did not like. Hemraj had also feared for his life and had told some of his friends about that.

But the police official did not name with whom Talwar had illicit relationship but speculation was that it was with another doctor colleague.

He said on the pretext of talking to Hemraj, Talwar took him to the terrace and killed him by hitting his head with a heavy weapon and then used a sharp-edged weapon.

Then he came downstairs, had whiskey and around one a.m. he killed Arushi by first hitting her head with a heavy object and then using a sharp-edged weapon to slit her throat.
