Mickey as he is fondly known will shortly makes his debut at the age of 51, in this maverick movie Mumbai 118 which has a vivacious 24-year old newcomer Lovee paired opposite him. Appearing a trifle embarrassed, he justified, “Believe me, it’s as if I am hijacked into it. My friends literally coaxed me into the lead role. The script required a debonair, rich ayyash businessman to play the character who looked somewhat like me. This movie is not directed by me but a veteran film-maker who finalised me considering my Kapoor lineage,” chuckled Aditya.
But wasn’t this cryptic number 118 alluding to some dancer’s kothaa or apartment in the story which has Aditya playing a desi version of Richard Gere?
“No comments. Honestly, I can’t reveal the details at this stage although the film is complete. Of course like Richard Gere, I have silvery-grey hair in the movie. But it’s a mature ‘bold’ love-story dedicated to Mumbai lifestyles and has a dramatic climax,” counters the actor who also denies that Mumbai 118 pairing a 50-plus man (Aditya) with a girl half his age had similarities with the Amitabh Bachchan-starrers Cheeni Kum or even Nishabd.
Now that Vinod Khanna is unlikely to be in his directorial venture Baltidevi — Queen of Southall, is he planning to cast himself?
“Its quite possible that I may be paired opposite Rakhee Sawant in that movie, which is on hold right now,” says Aditya who now has three more acting offers including a crime-thriller.
What was dad Shammi Kapoor’s ‘take’ on his son’s latest turn-around deviation? “When I first told him the news, he had a hearty laugh and was unwilling to believe it.
Later he reacted with — ‘Finally you realised that you are good-looking and talented enough to face the camera’ — and blessed me,” revealed the junior Kapoor.
