One of India’s famous cricketers, fast bowler S Sreesanth, believes in the powers of meditation but surprisingly he doesn’t do it himself.

Meditation expert Pratyaksh Mishra from Mumbai meditates for him! Sounds unbelievable? But we got the true story from none other than the charismatic player.

Sreesanth says, “Yes, somebody does meditate for me, especially when I am on the field playing. This practice is called transitional meditation. It means that I can communicate my state of mind to Pratyaksh, who is in a state of meditation 24x7 He is then able to send me positive vibrations.” He adds, “This kind of meditation has definitely helped me. I can focus on the game and stay cool and relaxed.”

However, many yoga exponents refute this kind of meditation. Harushith Kumble from The Yoga Institute says, “It is difficult to believe that transitional yoga works. But if the cricketer claims that it works for him then it probably does.” Sreesanth who is a firm believer in the philosophy that ‘nobody is a stranger in the world’ asserts that transitional yoga works. He says, “The world is one big family and nobody is a stranger here.” He adds, “Just like praying for others  works, so also transitional yoga benefits whom it is done for.”

It may be mentioned that transitional yoga is different from transcendental yoga that is practised and propagated by renowned Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. In the latter, the person sits quietly with closed eyes and focuses his mind on a mantra. He  repeats it for 20 minutes once in the morning and again in the evening. When distractions come to his mind, he observes them and  gently returns to his act.
