COLOMBO: Predicting the collapse of the LTTE, some leaders in Sri Lanka have said the elusive Tiger supremo V Prabhakaran will have no choice other than to 'commit suicide' when the Sri Lankan security forces zero in on him.
"He (Prabhakaran) will not be alive till the military arrests him. Simply, he will commit suicide. This is the nature of people like him," senior Tamil leader Doughlas Devananda said reacting to the observation by the Jane's Intelligence Review that the LTTE was at its lowest ebb.
Marxist JVP party leader Somawansa Amarasinghe also made similar dire predictions about the fate of the LTTE leader.
"LTTE leader Prabhakaran will soon have to commit suicide by swallowing the cyanide capsule tie around his neck while the LTTE will come to an end without a leader," Amarasinghe said.
He said "the people imprisoned in the areas held by the LTTE will soon revolt against him and destroy him".
Devananda felt Prabhakaran will also meet the fate of other "despotic" leaders.
"Characters of this type will not wait until the military arrests them. So (the LTTE political head) P. Nadesan is correct and no one will approach his leader as he will kill himself. His fate will be similar to (German dictator) Rudolph Hitler and (Cambodian leader) Pol Pot".
Nadesan had, in a statement, had dared anyone to apprehend Prabhakaran saying "nobody can approach him".
Meanwhile, the online newspaper Asian Tribune quoted a senior official as saying that Prabhakaran, who was suffering from diabetes, had lost his commanding position.
The official quoting intelligence sources said the oufit was in "shambles" and two senior rival leaders had taken over the day to day activities of the Tigers, it said.
