It was a mere Rs500 that cost 12-year-old Abhilash his life. His two friends not only killed him, they mutilated his body

In a bone-chilling killing, a 12-year-old boy was lynched by two of his two friends because he beat them at a game of poker and won Rs 500. After killing the boy, the friends then mutilated the body, dumping it in a gutter.

The case came to light when Abhilash Jha’s parents started searching for him when he did not return home. They finally filed a police complaint at Nizmpura police station,
Bhiwandi, on Saturday.

The police said: “The victim was playing a game of cards with friends in his neighbourhood. By the time the game ended, Abhilash won Rs 500 from the two suspects, Deviprasad Verma, 18, and Rizwan Ansari, 20, who were hell-bent on getting their money back.

Senior police inspector R C Patil, Nizampura police station, told DNA: “When Abhilash refused to hand over the money to Deviprasad and Rizwan, they first lured him to a restaurant and gave him some cookies.

They, then, took him to a secluded place. They stabbed him several times with a sickle they were carrying with them. They then dumped Jha’s body in a small nullah.”

“When my son did not return till late in the night I asked Deviprasad and Rizwan where he was since he was playing with them. They told me that he had gone to meet some friends and would be back soon.

When Abhilash did not return home even the next day, I rushed to the police station and filed a missing complaint,” Abhilash’s mother said.

In her complaint Renu mentioned that Abhilash was last seen with Deviprasad and Rizwan. Based on the complaint filed by Renu, the police first questioned the duo
who reportedly confessed to the killing.

Jha’s body was found in the nullah where the suspects had dumped him. Both the suspects have been remanded to police custody till December 22.

“I cannot believe that both of them killed my son so brutally just for a mere Rs 500; he was very innocent and never quarelled with anyone,” said an inconsolable Renu.
