Take a break from using wrinkle-free creams and lotions. How about trying stem cell therapy, gene therapy or nanotechnology to look and feel younger for a change?

“These advances in modern medical technology may sound futuristic. But they are here now, and will change the way you think about medicine,” said Dr Ali Mohamed, speaker at a meet organised by A4M in the city. American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), a US-based NGO dedicated to the advancement of technology and research in preventing, detecting and treating age-related diseases, launched its Indian chapter on Sunday.

“Gene silencing — a concept which won the Nobel Prize — can be used more effectively not just for anti-ageing, but to save people from lifestyle disease as well,” said Professor R Burzynski. For instance, antineoplastons (a specialised chemical), when given in a particular dose, switch off the multiplying cancer cells and “silence” the gene.

Coupled with mild chemotherapy, can save lives.

They can be applied in skin creams, through which the cells producing collagen can be ‘switched on’, which will result in younger looking skin, he explained.

“A study on hormones showed that we age because the hormone production is declining, and not vice versa. Therefore Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is another area which is crucial in anti-ageing,” said Dr Mohamed.

That is where bio-identical HRT comes in. “It is made from bacteria whose genetic code is identical to the human body, and therefore has no side-effects,” said Dr Mohamed.

“Ironically, India invented the concept of stress-busting through meditation, imported it to the West and then forgot about it,” said Dr Mohamed, advocating going back to good old yoga for ever-lasting youth.
