VISAKHAPATNAM: A young bank manager was kidnapped and murdered allegedly by a loan defaulter and his associates here, police said on Saturday.

The half-burnt body of K K Prasad, manager of Dwarakanagar branch of State Bank of Indore, was found near the bushes at Revati village on the city outskirts on Saturday, police said.

Prasad, who was transferred to the port city from Bangalore about eight months ago, was kidnapped on Thursday night while he was returning home in his car.

The victim's body bore marks of torture. The killers had used petrol and acid to burn the body and dumped it near the bushes.

Police suspect the involvement of a local realtor who had defaulted on repayment of his loan. The bank officer was said to have initiated proceedings to attach the properties of the defaulter.

"My brother was beaten to death and his body was burnt by the killers. Is this the reward he gets for his devotion to duty and commitment to rules? His only sin was that he insisted on repayment of loans," victim's brother Kumar said.

Prasad, in his 30s, leaves behind his wife and a 10-year-old son.

According to police sources, three persons were detained for questioning in connection with the case.
