Uma Khurana, the mathematics teacher of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, who was accused of forcing her students into prostitution in a sting operation aired on Live India channel is in a state of shock.
NEW DELHI: Uma Khurana, the mathematics teacher of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, who was accused of forcing her students into prostitution in a sting operation aired on Live India channel on August 30, is in a state of shock.
Lodged in separate 6ft x 8ft prison cell in Tihar Jail for almost a week, Khurana who was physically abused by a mob of angry parents, and later sacked from her government job by the state education ministry, is anxiously waiting for Monday, when her bail application would be heard.
Prison authorities told DNA that Khurana was in a state of complete shock when she was brought to Tihar. “She continuously sobbed for almost two days. The prison authorities had asked two other prison inmates, known for their good conduct, to spend time with her and console her. She underwent three counseling sessions with jail counselors,” a source said.
But all through the week, Khurana sternly maintained she was innocent and a victim of a conspiracy. “She told the two prison inmates who spent time with her that nothing would be proved against her as she was totally innocent. She repeatedly told the counselors — satyamev jayate — truth will win,” the source said.
Khurana’s lawyer Vivek Sharma said, “We have put in our bail application and it would be heard on Monday after the investigation officer in the case presents his report to the magistrate. I am confident that my client would get bail on Monday as police investigations have revealed that the reporter who conducted the sting had framed her in a fake expose.”
Meanwhile, Prakash Singh, the reporter who conducted the sting, was produced in the Tees Hazari court on Saturday and remanded to seven days judicial custody. The police are also looking at his role in inciting the violence that rocked Daryaganj after the expose was aired. Singh has already been charged with criminal conspiracy and fabrication of evidence. Rashmi Singh, the girl who posed as a student in the sting, has also been kept at the Tihar Jail.
