Pooja blames her semi-nude walk on insensitivity of police

RAJKOT: Twenty two-year-old Pooja Chauhan, who shocked everyone by walking semi-nude on the streets of the city to draw attention to her alleged torture for dowry, on Thursday said it was the insensitivity of the police that drove her to take the step.

"Time and again I would go to the police and they would tell me they were looking into my complaint. But they were not taking any action," Puja said.

After the woman took the extreme measure, police finally registered an FIR and arrested her husband, mother-in-law and two other relatives for allegedly torturing her for dowry.

"Acting on her complaint, we arrested her husband, mother-in-law and two others and sent them to court," a senior official said.

He, however, said the woman appeared to be "mentally unstable".
   
Puja was seen walking on the roads of Rajkot in a semi-nude condition to protest alleged harassment by her in-laws for not bringing sufficient dowry and bearing a girl child.
