PM’s niece harassed for dowry, 3 held

LUDHIANA: Rana Indivaar Singh and Avtaar Singh, who were arrested for demanding dowry from Amneet Kaur, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s niece, were produced before the Samrala Magistrate’s court on Saturday.

Amneet Kaur is the daughter of the PM’s brother, Indrajit Singh.

“We have registered a case of dowry harassment after a complaint was lodged by Amneet against her husband Indivaar Singh and her in-laws Baljinder Kaur, Jasmeet Kaur and Avtaar Singh,” said the station house officer of Khanna, Dharmpal.

Baljinder Kaur was sent to to judicial custody, while Jasmeet Kaur and Avtaar Singh were remanded in police custody. The police have already the recovered the goods that was given as dowry.

The Khanna police arrested them from Ludhiana's VRS Nagar yesterday. Till now, Jasmeet Kaur, Amneet Kaur's sister-in-law is at large. Before sending the duo to judicial custody, they underwent a preliminary medical check-up at Khanna’s civil hospital.
