With reality shows making instant stars of the country’s hidden talent, there’s yet another bunch of wannabes emerging into the limelight. The difference being, of course, this lot lacks talent - so instead of working their way to the top, they find a ‘celeb bakra’, ride on his/her success and manage to get their 15 minutes of fame!

After the infamous Preeti Jain-Madhur Bhandarkar issue, there was a crazy fan of television star Eijaz Khan who claimed that he was married to her. That was followed by Rakhi Sawant-Mika Singh’s kiss issue. Now, the latest to jump on to this infamous bandwagon is Janhvi Kapoor.

The starlet attempted suicide outside Abhishek Bachchan’s home a day before his wedding to Aishwarya Rai, claiming he had promised to marry her.

Noted dialogue and story writer Kamlesh Pandey reflects, “These girls are desperate for fame and they know that the easiest way to gain it is by targeting celebrities. By covering such incidents, the media has only offered them the opportunity to achieve their aim. We should sympathise with them for their vulnerability. It’s inhuman to ridicule them.”

Clinical psychologist Seema Hingoranny, too, asserts that these girls need society’s support. She says, “These girls need to understand that such actions will only backfire.

Most of them come to Mumbai from smaller towns; they neither have family consent nor good education. When they face failure, they become determined to prove to their kin back home that they can become famous.”

But do these gimmicks really work? At least, it did in Rakhi Sawant’s case, who was seen on all TV channels and even made it to the front page of national dailies after Mika Singh allegedly forcefully kissed her. The item girl managed to bag the first season of ‘Bigg Boss’ too.

Sony’s chief creative director Sandiip Sikcand says, “Our casting Rakhi for ‘Bigg Boss’ had nothing to do with her ‘kiss’ issue. We approached her because of her  ‘item girl’ image. She became so popular that we cast her again for ‘Comedy Ka Badshah Hasega India’.”

So, how do we put an end to such incidents? Pandey says, “Simple, just ignore such news!”
