Strong quake rocks Pak, Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Strong tremors of earthquake jolted several parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, including the federal capital Islamabad, the capital of Punjab – Lahore — and the capital of the North Western Frontier Province – Peshawar, creating panic across Pakistan.

However, no loss of property or life has been reported from any part of the country, although the earthquake did shake some high rising buildings in Islamabad.

According to the Seismological Network of Pakistan, an earthquake of severe intensity hit the Punjab and the North Western Frontier Provinces of Pakistan on Tuesday morning with six point zero (6.0) magnitude on International Richter Scale.

The earthquake originated at 08:35 hours and its epicenter was 300 kilometers North of Peshawar in Hindukush range in Afghanistan. However, the United States Geological Survey says the quake measured magnitude 6.4.

They said the earthquake was felt in several parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Punjab, North Western Frontier Province, Azad Kashmir and the Northern areas of Pakistan, but there were no early reports of significant damage or injuries.
