RANCHI: Security has been beefed up at Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's house here following India's humiliating World Cup defeat to Sri Lanka. Dhoni scored zero for a second time in a World Cup match.

"Security at his house has been increased after what happened last Sunday," said a police officer, referring to the attack on a house under construction belonging to Dhoni after India lost to Bangladesh a week ago.

Four armed security personnel have been deployed to guard Dhoni's original house where he lives with his parents, in Mecon colony. The officer added: "Security is also up at Dhoni's house that is under construction."

On March 18, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supporters attacked the house under construction in Harmu Housing Colony. That was soon after India's loss to Bangladesh where too Dhoni failed to score.

India's performance, in particular Dhoni's, has let down cricket fans here.

"We are disappointed. It is shocking that Dhoni scored zero in two crucial matches," said Saurbah Kumar, a resident of Ranchi, echoing a widely held view.

Another Ranchi resident, Amit Mahto, added: "Indian players are only interested in making money from advertisements. Dhoni is banking more on advertisements than his performance. Players should be barred from featuring on ads." - IANS

Security beefed up at Bhajji's residence

JALANDHAR: Fearing an attack from disgruntled fans following India's World Cup loss to Sri Lanka, police has beefed up security at off-spinner Harbhajan Singh's residence in Kishanpura locality of the city.

Police sources said security has been tightened to deal with any untoward situation, which may arise following the loss.

India's chances of survival in the mega event now rest on the result of tomorrow's match between Bangladesh and Bermuda. India can enter the super eight only if Bermuda manage to upstage Bangladesh.

Friday's loss has already sparked angry reactions here with cricket lovers criticising local lad Harbhajan for his below par show in the match.
