The future king is used to having pretty young things flinging themselves at him in a flirtatious manner, but the dashing prince is generally seen politely rejecting the advances in devoted loyalty to Kate. However the passionate embrace with a young blonde girl on the dance floor of his favourite haunt – the Boujis nightclub in central London – has raised many eyebrows including those of his girlfriend.
"It was an embrace but not a French kiss," Tess Shepherd, the girl in question told the Daily Mail. "It was very flattering, but its not true that I snogged him," she added. Embarrassed by the episode, Shepherd said "It's not even like I fancy him – and I'm kind of seeing someone".
Like Middleton, Shepherd is also not blue blooded, but comes from good middle-class British stock. Her parents run a family farm near Aberdeen in Scotland, and Shepherd has recently moved to London to pursue a career in public relations. She lives in a smart flat in Fulham, and has already become a fixture on the exclusive nightclub circuit.
Witnesses to the incident said the kiss was the talk of Boujis. "William was with Harry and a group of close friends. They were settled in the VIP room and getting incredibly drunk when Tess walked in," the witness told the newspaper.
A mutual friend introduced Tess to the Prince. They chatted on their own and then danced into the early hours of the morning. It was at the end of the night that William kissed Tess. "They were dancing and it just happened. Other people also saw it and couldn't believe it," he added.
Middleton, 25, is currently on holiday with her family in Barbados, and will certainly hear of the incident. She and William have been seeing each other for four years and media having been expecting an engagement for some time.
"Kate is used to girls flinging themselves at William, but she'll not be impressed that he was getting so intimate on the dance floor. It's a good job she's not with him right now or there would be more than a few words," said a friend of Middleton.
