Think of it as a combination of an iTunes and a MySpace for the resident and non-resident Indian market. And no, it isn’t gonna stream hours off ‘Indian Idol’.

Saffronconnect.com is a social networking portal that revolves around music and videos. “We are a space for artists from the Indian subcontinent to promote and sell their music, and users to sample and share it,” explains head of operations, Alisha Patel. Largely CEO Manu Kaushish’s brainchild, it aims to fill in the blanks in the Indian and South Asian online music and ‘networking’ worlds.

“Musicians just have to sign up as ‘artists’. This way, apart from completing regular profile questions like name, age, interests, etc, they can also upload their audio/video content and monetise it should they choose to. It provides them with unparalleled exposure to the global online community thereafter,” says Alisha.

With Rishi Rich and Bally Sagoo on their hot plate right now, it might seem that Punjabi hip-hop will be ruling their roost. “Most importantly, we are looking for all artists/musicians and bands who want to be noticed,” ends Manu.
